XFL suspends operations, lays off all employees due to coronavirus

Another sports league is being affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Chief Operating Officer of the XFL, Jeffery Pollock, said on a conference call Friday that the league has suspended all operations and all employees have been laid off, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Vince McMahon's attempt to reboot the XFL may end up falling apart due to COVID-19. The 10-game season was canceled halfway through, but XFL officials feel confident the league will be up and running again in 2021.

When the XFL season began, TV ratings were high following the end of the NFL campaign, but interest in subpar play lessened each week.

The league released all players from their contracts in March and a few of the best quarterbacks have landed NFL deals — P.J. Walker, Jordan Ta'amu and Josh Johnson.

If and when the XFL resumes, they will have to find some compelling quarterbacks to fill the holes left by those mentioned above.
