Inter have added January signing Tajon Buchanan to their Champions League squad for the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, but coach Simone Inzaghi has opted to exclude both Juan Cuadrado and Stefano Sensi.

Buchanan was Inter’s only permanent signing of the January transfer window. No Nerazzurri squad members left permanently either, despite Leicester City’s attempts to sign Sensi for several weeks in January.

Lucien Agoume as well as youngsters Eddie Salcedo and Alessandro Silvestro were allowed to leave on loan, but none of them were part of Inter’s original Champions League squad at the beginning of the current season.

Cuadrado is reportedly still struggling with an achilles tendon injury, so has been removed from Inzaghi’s official squad.

Sensi was expected to leave the club in January, but saw his move to Championship leaders Leicester City collapse at the death on deadline day. He is out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 campaign and will now likely leave on a free transfer.

Inter will face Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid over two legs of the Round of 16, beginning with a home game at San Siro on Tuesday 20 February, before heading to the Spanish capital for the reverse fixture on Wednesday 13 March.

Both games are scheduled to kick off at 20.00 GMT.

Inter Champions League squad:

Goalkeepers: Sommer, Audero, Di Gennaro.

Defenders: Dumfries, Buchanan, Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni, Bisseck, De Vrij, Pavard, Dimarco, Carlos Augusto.

Midfielders: Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Frattesi, Klaasen, Asllani.

Forwards: Laurato Martinez, Thuram, Arnautovic, Alexis Sanchez.
