Recap: Cole Schwindt’s two goal night not enough to earn the Wranglers the win in Winnipeg

That was the only goal through the first period and at the end of the frame, the Wranglers had a 1-0 lead despite Dustin Wolf getting peppered with shots. He stopped all 17 from Manitoba and Calgary put up nine of their own.

In the second period, the pretty disciplined play from these two that ensued in this series broke open a bit. They had back-to-back offsetting penalties 39 seconds in, then again at 4:41 that put most of the opening half on a four-on-four.

Later in the period, Calgary found themselves on a 5-on-3 for over a minute and put good use to the extra ice they had to work with. Cole Schwindt scored once again with a power play marker at 16:04. A quick passing play between Matt Coronato and Jonathan Aspirot finished with a one-timer from Schwindt wide in the zone that beat Delia. 

This put the Wranglers up 2-0 at the end of 40 minutes and shots were much closer in the middle frame with Manitoba up 12-11. The third period took an uncontainable turn for the Wranglers which they were unable to recover from. It all started with a goal from Axel Jonsson-Fjallby just 59 seconds into the period. Jonsson-Fjallby ripped a rocket of a shot on Wolf that he had next to no time to react to. The Moose quickly tied things up with another marker six minutes in.

This one came from Dawson Bareaux who shot from the point and similarly to Schwindt’s first goal, it looked as if it was redirected by an opposing player. A couple of minutes after this, these teams were back on a four-on-four then once things got back to even strength, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby struck again with the game-winner at 9:55.

Jonsson-Fjallby cut off a clearing attempt by Jonathan Aspirot that bounced off the boards and landed on his stick. Jonsson-Fjallby took a quick shot and got the third puck past Wolf on the night. The play turned a little bit more conservative after this goal but the Moose would score one more at 16:30 off a bar down shot from Jeffrey Viel. 

Calgary quickly pulled Wolf 12 seconds after this goal and attempted to make up some ground with the extra attacker. They put up a pair of shots but no progress was made on the scoreboard. This game finished up in a 4-2 decision and Calgary was out-shot 41-25.
