Rangers acquire Barclay Goodrow from Lightning for seventh-round pick

Fresh off his second consecutive Stanley Cup title in Tampa Bay, Barclay Goodrow is headed to the Northeast.

The New York Rangers acquired Goodrow from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a seventh-round pick. In a separate move, the Blue Shirts traded Brett Howden to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a fourth-round pick and Nick DeSimone.

Goodrow will become an unrestricted free agent if the Rangers don't sign him to a new contract, which is why he was traded for only a seventh-round pick.

According to CapFriendly , the Rangers are projected to have a little over $23 million in cap space. That money will be used to re-sign Goodrow and Pavel Buchnevich, among others.

During the 2020-21 campaign with the Lightning, Goodrow tallied 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 55 games. He added six points (two goals, four assists) in 18 playoff games.

Before being traded to the Lightning during the 2019-20 season, Goodrow spent five and a half seasons with the San Jose Sharks.
