Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore continues to add to his coaching staff. On Monday, Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports reported that the Wolverines have made another addition. Kevin Wilkins, the right-hand man of Wink Martindale, will reportedly join the Michigan football staff as an analyst.

Michigan football adds defensive analyst with ties to Ravens’ defense

This is a great move by Sherrone Moore. Wilkins was mentioned as a possible addition to the on-field coaching staff. However, Wilkins didn’t have much background in the college game. Since Martindale, the new Michigan football defensive coordinator, isn’t expected to bring much on the recruiting trail, it wouldn’t have made sense to hire another coach who is a potential recruiting liability.

Wilkins worked with the New York Giants as a defensive assistant under Martindale for the past two seasons. He was also a defensive assistant for the Ravens in 2021, in addition to working other jobs for Baltimore dating back to 2015. Wilkins will work as a defensive analyst where he can assist with game-planning and other duties. Every coach wants people on staff that he trusts, so adding Wilkins as an analyst is a smart move.

Michigan football D-line coach officially announced

We are still waiting to hear the official word on some of Michigan football’s hires but Greg Scruggs was announced as the Wolverines defensive line coach on Monday. Scruggs has coached with the New York Jets, the Cincinatti Bearcats, and the Wisconsin Badgers. Michigan was able to steal Scruggs away from Wisconsin this offseason, which was a huge win since Scruggs is known as an excellent recruiter and developer of talent.
