Browns will see some interesting faces during their 2024 preseason schedule
Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns now have their 2024 schedule and know the road that they will have to go to get back to the playoffs. The Browns have not made the playoffs for consecutive years since 1989, so it’s been a while.

One point that hasn’t been talked about much is the preseason. Cleveland will face three NFC opponents to tune up for the season.

Aug. 10 vs. Green Bay Packers

Football at the beginning of August is never fun no matter how much we try to think it is. It is summer baseball weather and the Browns don’t really play starters or even key reserves in this first preseason game.

The Packers are a team with some depth and will offer the Browns a competitive game in the preseason. Green Bay was a playoff team last year, though I am a bit lower on them than most. Jordan Love likely won’t play, so it’ll be backups against backups for 60 minutes.

Aug. 17 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Cleveland is going to have joint practices with the Vikings, as Minnesota’s general manager is Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, a former front-office member of the Browns. Expect the joint practices to be where the Browns get their best work in during this week. Cleveland and Minnesota will play starters against starters in practice prior to the game.

The Vikings drafted J.J. McCarthy in the first round of the NFL Draft and the Browns will see some of him in these matchups. In the past with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Browns defensive back room had been tested by A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. Now, we will see them have the task of matching up with Justin Jefferson.

Cleveland could test the starters early in this game, or come away from the joint practices feeling good with what was accomplished.

Aug. 24 at Seattle Seahawks

Making the trip to the West Coast for the final preseason game is rough, but the Browns will start the season at home is a positive. Additionally, with only three preseason games they’ll have over two weeks between playing again.

Cleveland will suit up starters briefly in this game for a final walk-through, at least that is what has happened in the past.

Seattle’s new head coach Mike Macdonald is familiar with the Browns since he served as the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator previously. One last dress reversal before the final thing.
