Broncos' Jerry Jeudy expresses confidence in Russell Wilson

Add wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to the list of people associated with the Denver Broncos expressing confidence in quarterback Russell Wilson ahead of training camp.

"Just his mentality," Jeudy said while hosting a youth football camp about why he still believes in Wilson, per Ben Swanson of the Broncos' website. "Russ is a soldier. So just the way he handles his business, the way he handles situations, I just know the type of guy he is and the stuff that he can overcome. In the situations like that, that don't put no fear into a man's heart. And I know that this year, he got a big year coming ahead."

Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi recently suggested that injuries impacted Wilson's performances throughout his first season with the organization that most involved would prefer to forget. Wilson picked up what became a lingering hamstring issue in the middle of October, suffered a concussion in December and ultimately needed arthroscopic surgery on his right knee following the campaign.

ESPN stats show Wilson ended the season ranked 27th among eligible players with a 36.7 adjusted QBR and an 84.4 passer rating. He was 31st with a 60.5% completion percentage and finished with 16 touchdown passes to go along with 11 interceptions across 15 games.

As for Jeudy, he led all Broncos players with 67 catches, 972 receiving yards and six touchdown grabs. He's looking to improve upon those numbers after building chemistry with Wilson for more than a single offseason.

"The biggest thing, really, for me is just consistency," Jeudy explained. "I know what I'm capable of doing, and I'm capable of playing at a high level. It showed the last six games (562 yards from scrimmage and three scores), and the only thing, for now, is just bringing them last six games into the new year and just starting off strong and staying consistent."

Wilson should look to Jeudy early and often beginning with the Week 1 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 10 as the 34-year-old attempts to prevent new head coach Sean Payton from considering going to primary backup Jarrett Stidham this coming fall.
