'You made a mistake and I got screwed…' Charles Barkley talks ‘unfair’ ref decision that affected Lakers exit from playoffs
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Now that the Los Angeles Lakers are out of the playoffs, most of the discussions will surround of what went wrong for the team. Even though the Lakers did play well, Charles Barkley talked about an unfair situation that went against the team in purple and gold in the dying minutes.

The Hall of Famer pointed out a situation where the Los Angeles Lakers did not have a timeout. It meant they could not use their challenge on a call that went against them.

No. 1 it doesn't make sense. I don't understand how you win a challenge and lose the timeout. I understand the rules, but that just doesn't seem fair to me, in my opinion. You made a mistake and I got screwed by your mistake. That ain't right. Charles Barkley said

Kenny Smith was in support of this notion as he thought a team should be able to keep their timeout if they won the previous challenge. Having a challenge without any timeout to use it in, made no sense to them.

Their logic has some merits, as a team having a challenge can only use it in the timeout. Once they use the challenge, they lose a timeout in that process. However, the rules state that if their challenge is successful, they get another challenge.

Charles Barkley and Smith think that if the team won their previous challenge their timeout should not be removed. Otherwise, the additional challenge becomes worthless. In crucial game-winning situations that team cannot use that additional challenge as they do not have a timeout to use it in.

Charles Barkley excited for Denver Nuggets vs Minnesota Timberwolves playoff series

They then discussed about the Los Angeles Lakers and their season-ending loss. The panel moved on to talk about who the Denver Nuggets will face next.

Let me say this. This is going to be big boy basketball. This ain't the same Minnesota team they beat last year. This Minnesota team man, I cannot wait for Saturday. This is what we say grown man basketball. Charles Barkley added

Barkley is excited to see who guards Anthony Edwards in that series. It will also be interesting to see the matchup between Rudy Gobert and Nikola Jokic.

The panel unanimously agreed that in this series, both teams are matched in size and physicality. How they battle against each other will make this series entertaining. Barkley said that even though the Nuggets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in last year’s playoffs, this time the team is a lot better.

Therefore, the excitement to watch the defending champions taking on the most upstart team in the league has Barkley looking ahead. They have a few days rest before game 1 starts on Saturday.
