Report: Wizards to sign C Greg Monroe to 10-day contract Thursday

Both Rui Hachimura and Montrezl Harrell have been stuck in the NBA's health and safety protocols since late December. Washington Wizards teammate Spencer Dinwiddie also recently joined them out of action, and the club is reportedly bringing in a former top-10 overall draft pick to help the cause.

Monroe was selected by the Detroit Pistons with the seventh pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and was named Second-Team All-Rookie after posting 9.4 points and 7.5 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game across 80 contests as a first-year player. Monroe spent the first five seasons of his career in Detroit, averaging a career-high 16 points and 3.5 assists per game in the 2012-2013 campaign, while averaging a double-double of 15.9 points and a career-best 10.2 rebounds in his final year with the Pistons in 2014-2015.

The former Georgetown Hoya signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in July 2015 and stayed with the team for the next two-plus seasons, before being traded to the Phoenix Suns in November 2017. Monroe was waived by the Suns in February 2018 after just 20 games, before signing with the Boston Celtics.

The 31-year-old played two games with the Celtics and three with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2018-2019 season, as well as 38 contests with the Toronto Raptors. Monroe spent the last two seasons playing overseas and signed a 10-day deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Dec. 27, 2021.

The Wizards are scheduled to play the Houston Rockets at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, before traveling to face the Chicago Bulls at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.
