Daniel Theis Clears Waivers, Expected to Join Clippers
Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Veteran center Daniel Theis has officially cleared waivers after being released by the Pacers two days ago. He reportedly intends to sign with the Clippers and could do so as soon as this weekend.

Theis and the Pacers reportedly reached agreement on a contract buyout earlier this week.

Theis, 31, has appeared in just one game this season, after playing only seven last year because of a knee injury. He said earlier this month that he was “not happy” about his end-of-the-bench role with Indiana.

That should change, at least in terms of getting an opportunity, with the Clippers — who are 0-5 since the trade for James Harden. They’ve lost six straight overall entering Friday’s game vs. the Rockets.

Theis has also spent time with the Celtics, Rockets and Bulls, and carries career averages of 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds.

The Clippers have been seeking a backup big man since Miles Plumlee went down with a knee injury. He is expected to miss several more weeks.
