Celtics Sign Mfiondu Kabengele To Two-Way Deal

Kabengele, 24, is 6-foot-10 and last played in an NBA gam in 2020-21, when he made 23 appearances with the Clippers and another 16 with the Cavaliers. He carries NBA career averages of 2.7 points and 1.4 rebounds.

Last season, he played with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G League after being waived by the Rockets. But his strong showing in summer league earned him a spot with the Celtics and their G League affiliate in Maine. 

Two-way players can appear in up to 50 NBA games before the team must sign them to a standard deal.

Kabengele is the nephew of former NBA center Dikembe Mutombo.

The former 2019 first round draft pick by Brooklyn has appeared in a total of 51 NBA games split between the LA Clippers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Toronto, Ontario native played in 33 games for the NBA G-League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers last season where he averaged 17.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.94 blocks in 29.3 minutes per game while shooting 58.9 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from three.
