Boston Celtics Player Leaves NBA For Europe
USA TODAY Sports

Mfiondu Kabengele is coming off a year where he played in four games for the Boston Celtics and averaged 1.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 28.6% from the field.

Kabengele was a free agent this summer, and it's been announced that he has signed with AEK Athens (h/t Alberto De Roa of HoopsHype).

Since Kabengele was on a two-way deal, he also spent time in the G League and averaged 20.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 blocks per contest while shooting 60.4% from the field and 34.2% from the three-point range in 27 regular season games.

He also appeared in 15 Showcase Cup games and one G League playoff game.

In addition to the Celtics, the 26-year-old (who was the 27th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Florida State) has also played for the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

His career averages are 2.6 points and 1.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 38.3% from the field and 30.1% from the field in 55 regular season games.

Kabengele was a recent first-round pick (and is still in the prime of his career), so he could be a good candidate to return to the NBA at some point soon.

As for the Celtics, they are coming off a year where they were the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

They beat the Atlanta Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers in the first two rounds of the NBA playoffs but lost to the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals.
