Yankees 'have eyes' for Joey Gallo?

Yankees 'have eyes' for Rangers All-Star Joey Gallo?

The New York Yankees entered the All-Star break at 46-43 and eight games back of the first-place Boston Red Sox in the American League East standings. As is often the case for the Bronx Bombers, they could be looking for some left-handed hitting help ahead of the trade deadline.

Enter Texas Rangers outfielder and two-time All-Star Joey Gallo.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees "have consistently had eyes for Gallo" and could pursue the 27-year-old who can hit free agency after next season over the next couple of weeks. Per ESPN stats, Gallo is currently tied for fifth in all of MLB with 24 home runs on the season, with 15 of those round-trippers coming since June 3 and the leaguewide crackdown on pitchers using so-called "sticky stuff" on mounds.

The Rangers are dead-last in the AL West and building for the future, but that doesn't guarantee the Yankees will be all-in for Gallo or any other slugger. New York plays Boston a total of eight times from Thursday evening through the afternoon of July 25, and the outcomes of those games could determine if the Yankees buy, sell or do nothing significant before the deadline.

The San Diego Padres have also been linked with Gallo in rumors.
