Why are the Braves rolling with Orlando Arcia at shortstop?
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

One of the most intriguing position battles of the offseason has come to a close, and the decision stunned most of Braves country. Despite hitting .371 at the plate during Spring Training, the Braves chose to option Vaughn Grissom to Gwinnett yesterday, naming Orlando Arcia the starter.

The reasoning for the decision has yet to be talked about by anyone from the Braves organization. Beat reporters have suggested a number of things — namely, Grissom’s sub-par defense and the club’s desire to hang onto Ehire Adrianza. While others have speculated that the Braves could be manipulating Grissom’s service time to gain an extra year of control.

On the latest episode of SportsTalkATL, Chase Irle, Alex Lord, and Jake Gordon discuss whether Orlando Arcia can be the guy in Atlanta, where it all went wrong with Grissom, and if Alex Anthopoulos should be to blame for not adding a more proven option this offseason.
