Veteran Orioles slugger, two-time MLB HR leader Chris Davis announces retirement

Veteran MLB first baseman Chris Davis is hanging up his cleats.

ESPN reported that Davis, 35, announced his retirement from the league on Thursday. Davis, who played for the Baltimore Orioles for over a decade, hasn't played this season following hip surgery.

"After an extended time dealing with my injury and recent hip surgery, I informed the Orioles about my decision to retire effective today," Davis said in a statement, via ESPN.

Davis, who spent the first few seasons of his pro career with the Texas Rangers, was an MVP candidate in 2013 when he hit .286/.370/.634 with a whopping 53 home runs, on top of tallying 72 RBI and 103 runs scored on 167 hits.
