Rockies All-Star Linked to Phillies in Potential Blockbuster Trade
USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies are struggling. Even that seems like an understatement.

Where a large part of their issue lies is with the offense, which is featuring Alec Bohm at first base and Edmundo Sosa at third the majority of the time.

Both are not in their natural positions.

But with injuries to Rhys Hoskins and Darick Hall, the Phillies have been forced to rely on Bohm and Sosa with Kody Clemens in reserve off of the bench. Not ideal.

However, there could be a solution. According to The Athletic, the Colorado Rockies could be shopping All-Star first baseman C.J. Cron and he has been linked to Philadelphia.

"The Rockies are unlikely to re-sign Cron, 33, so trading him now makes sense," writes Jim Bowden. "Cron has hit a total of 57 home runs with 194 RBIs over the past two seasons for Colorado and represented them in the All-Star Game last summer. Teams that could have interest include the Marlins and Phillies."

Cron would give the Phillies some power at first base and allow Bohm to slide back to third. That would once again make Sosa available off of the bench, a role his skillset is more suited for.

It would also answer the question of what the Phillies could do after Rhys Hoskins, if they opted to go that route.

If Philadelphia is serious about contending this season then a splash like Cron would make sense. In their current state, this Phillies squad stands little chance of making a run at a World Series championship.
