The Cincinnati Reds may not have had much of a season in 2022, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some things to look forward to when concerning the future.
One thing that the Reds and their fans are looking forward to is for young right-hander Hunter Greene to emerge as a front-line starter.
Last night, he struck out 10 batters over six innings of one-run ball against the Pittsburgh Pirates, continuing what has been a dominant stretch.
Over his last four starts, Greene has struck out 37 batters while only allowing 11 hits.
No pitcher in the modern era has struck out that many and allowed that few hits in a four-game span.

The stats aren’t super grand for Greene this season, as he’s gone 4-13 with a 4.66 ERA in 23 starts.
But this recent stretch has to have the Reds feeling good about where their rotation stands.
The future is certainly bright, and Greene is going to be a big part of that along with young left-hander Nick Lodolo.
Perhaps if the Reds add an arm or two this offseason, their pitching will help them potentially climb back into contention soon.
Greene certainly has the velocity to be a dominant starter in this league.
At just 23, he’s already struck out 156 batters, and this is only in his rookie season.
Again, things aren’t all rosy in Cincinnati right now, but Greene is one thing that the Reds and their fans can be excited about.
Sooner or later, he could be the ace of this staff.
He’s certainly pitched like it over his last four starts.
He hasn’t allowed too many hits and he continues to blow hitters away with his electric fastball.
