Braves ink deal with former closer Ken Giles

Ken Giles is 33-years-old and hasn’t pitched more than 4.1 innings since 2019, so it’s far from a guarantee that he ends up making the Braves roster, especially given how deep their bullpen is.

With that being said, Giles is healthy again and was throwing 93-95 MPH earlier this offseason.

At this point, would anybody be surprised if Ken Giles came to Atlanta and looked a lot like the guy he was six years ago? You shouldn’t be; these kinds of comeback stories have become commonplace over the last several years with the Braves since Alex Anthopoulos took over as general manager.

From 23-28 years old, Giles was one of the league’s most dominant relievers. He owns a career 2.71 ERA with a 12.3 K/9. The Braves bullpen is as deep as any, but you have to love Alex Anthopoulos’ continuous emphasis on ensuring it is a strength this year. It’s been a problem area in the past, but in 2024, the relief core could end up being the best in baseball.
