Auburn has started the second spring camp of the Hugh Freeze era.
The Auburn football program was kind enough to allow the media a few minutes to see the first practice of camp. Here are a few observations.
There wasn't a ton to see as positions were divided up doing individual work and changed the order as they cycled through drills.
- My biggest impression is that Malik Blocton is huge. I get why he was getting so much love from folks within the program during the bowl practices. He does not look like a freshman.
- Transfer lineman Gage Keys has a long frame and was able to move it well in drills.
- Trill Carter followed Jayson Jones in the drills that I watched. He's built low to the ground. I imagine he will find it hard to move in the trenches.
- The quarterback rotation started out as Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner, Hank Brown, and Walker White. They rotated and changed order after the first cycle.
- The offensive line worked in duos for most of the time while we were out there. Here were the most common couples that I noticed:
Percy Lewis and Dillon Wade
Seth Wilfred and EJ Harris
Dylan Senda and Clay Wedin
Jeremiah Wright and Izavion Miller
At the end of the viewing window, I watched all the quarterbacks make quality throws to pass catchers. One that stood out to me was transfer tight end Rico Walker. I thought he moved well for his size. I also noticed a lot of Koy Moore - he seemed shifty and was eager to turn and show a burst after the catch.
